The polar bear is the undisputed king of the Arctic and there are currently at least 3,000 living on or near Spitsbergen – more than there are people. With so many of these magnificent creatures calling Spitsbergen home, it is the ideal place to see them in the wilderness. In fact, passengers on Hurtigruten’s MS Nordstjernen spotted polar bears on every one of its summer 2015 sailings.
This summer, the Nordstjernen is back in Spitsbergen and still has cabins available from just £1,153 per person for its 6 day trips on choice of 22 departure dates (based on 2 sharing an unspecified inside cabin on full board basis with shared shower facilities).
Those who fancy their very own Arctic expedition can travel between June and August 2016, when they will take a voyage to and from Longyearbyen including landings in polarcirkle boats. They will also enjoy a 1 or 2 night hotel stay in Longyearbyen (depending on departure date). Flights to Longyearbyen are not included and cost from £540 return per person.
In the company of 130 fellow guests, passengers will explore the extraordinary Arctic landscape under the midnight sun. Other possible wildlife sightings include Arctic fox, reindeer and walrus.
