3 DEC 2015 – 21 DEC 201519 DAY CRUISE FROM £1199

Swan Hellenic’s Minerva departs from the volcanic island of Tenerife, the largest in the Canary archipelago, which soars dramatically above its neighbours. Discover ash beds, lava streams and unique rock formations in Mount Teide National Park before a leisurely cruise towards La Palma and its elegant capital Santa Cruz de la Palma. From here head to serene Fuencaliente, adorned with whitewashed houses and scattered with volcanoes, or visit the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory for unique astronomical insights.

Enjoy three days at sea before reaching Santiago and Sao Vicente in the remote Cape Verde archipelago, where you will find an intriguing mix of African and Portuguese influences. Take a tour of the islands, visit Praia’s San Felipe Colonial Fort or experience the bustling markets of Mindelo. A crossing of the Atlantic gives you the opportunity to make the most of Minerva’s facilities and immerse yourself in the fascinating talks given by your Guest Speakers as she heads to the New World. Formerly Dutch Guiana and a plantation colony of the Netherlands, Suriname is cloaked in pristine tropical rainforest. In neighbouring Guyana learn about the country’s nine indigenous tribes and admire Georgetown’s quaint Dutch colonial and Victorian architecture.

On to St George’s, where you can relax on pristine beaches, take a rainforest walk or explore the Dougaldston Spice Estate, a monument to Grenada’s colonial past, before your cruise concludes in beautiful Barbados.
